Ragging is a crime which destroys the physical and emotional confidence and led to an increase in suicidal activities, defined as an act that violates or is perceived to violate an individual student’s dignity. In 2009, University Grants Commission (UGC) passed UGC REGULATION ON CURBING THE MENACE OF RAGGING IN HIGHER EDUCATIONAL INSTITUTIONS, framed to curb the menace of ragging, including strict pre-emptive measures, like lodging freshers in a separate hostel. Students are requested to go through thoroughly and understand what constitutes ragging and what are the responsibilities of institution’s and students’ to prevent such incidents within the campus. Students and parents both are requested to give a necessary undertaking in the prescribed manner in strict compliance with the UGC regulations.
